100% free. No ads. No account. Minimal permissions, too: storage, the active tab, a context menu, and one translation host — that's everything the extension asks for.
Learn moreWhy not just use your browser's built-in translation?
Chrome and Firefox already translate whole pages well. When a full article is in a language you don't read, the built-in page translation is the right tool — and Sonic Translate doesn't try to replace it.
But most translation moments while browsing aren't whole pages. They're a sentence in a review, a phrase in a post, a term in documentation — moments where translating the entire page breaks your reading flow. Browsers give you no keyboard shortcut for that; at best you get a right-click menu.
Sonic Translate covers exactly that gap: select the text, press Ctrl+E, read the translation in place, and keep going — with a dictionary, synonyms, text-to-speech, and local history that page translation doesn't offer. Many people use both, each for its own job.

Built for language learners
Turn on bilingual display and every translation shows the original and its translation together in the popup or panel — read both sides of every sentence instead of losing the original. Tap the listen buttons to hear pronunciation with your browser's voices, and use the dictionary to chain-translate from any word to its definitions, reverse translations, and synonyms.

No tracking by us: no analytics, no telemetry, no developer server. When you translate, the text you selected is sent only to Google Translate over HTTPS to produce your translation — that is the extension's single network call. Your settings and history stay in your browser, on your device.
