Which languages does Sonic Translate support?

Sonic Translate supports 109 languages, plus a Detect Language option that identifies the source automatically. Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional) are separate options. Translation is powered by Google Translate, and every language works with the Ctrl+E quick popup and the Shift+E panel.

How does automatic language detection work?

Leave the source language set to Detect Language and Sonic Translate identifies what you selected before translating it. You can also pin a fixed source language: use the From dropdown in the toolbar popup, the searchable dropdown in the full panel, or set your default under Language Settings in Options.

What about Chinese?

Chinese (Simplified) (zh-CN) and Chinese (Traditional) (zh-TW) are two separate entries in every language list — they are counted as two of the 109. Pick the script your reader uses: Simplified is standard in mainland China and Singapore; Traditional in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Do all 109 languages have text-to-speech voices?

No — voice coverage is separate from translation coverage. Sonic Translate reads text aloud using your browser's voices, so audio is available only for languages that have a voice installed on your device. See which languages have text-to-speech voices for how to check and how to install more.
